Instructions for the opponent (Master´s students)

Qualifications

The opposition is carried out before or after the presentation of your own Master's Thesis. To qualify as an opponent you have to have completed relevant courses within the field and have attended one Master Thesis presentation of another Master's thesis work.

Register as an opponent

As an opponent you have to register at the examiner at least two weeks before the presentation. The purpose of this registration is to verify your qualifications as an opponent. To register you have to leave a transcript from Ladok of the sort UT10 to the examiner (can be collected at the Student´s Office in Zenit). It is important that you leave this transcript from Ladok because the examiner checks if  you qualify as an opponent and that you have attended one other presentation. If you qualify your examiner will register you in the Master´s Thesis system.

Registration on the course TQxx30

To get your opposition registered in Ladok you need to be registered on the course TQxx30. If the course code is not visible for registration in the Student portal, you have to apply for the course by using the form Change of  courses (Master students). Let the examiner or the related Director of Studies sign your filled-in form it and leave it to your student counselor. you also have to be registered on the semester.

The design of the opposition

The student first presents his/her Master's Thesis. The opposition should take 20-30 minutes and as an opponent you review the solutions of the thesis and must also suggest alternative solutions. All points of view should be constructive. Your focus should primarily be on the general impression of the thesis rather than on details.

The opposition is made in dialogue with the presenting student who then can give arguments for the solutions and results.

The opponent must give the examiner a written account of the opposition at least one week before the presentation.

Please notice that there are other regulations for ERASMUS-students. Contact your examiner for more information.
